Amazing Customers and Friendly Vendors

Day Two, we made it back and with some help, my son came home for the first time since grad school started. And after giving me a quick hug went straight in to peak at Lil Orchid while she was napping, came out and said I think her hair has gotten longer.(cute huh) So we were able to relieve each other and relax a little better. Lil Orchid helped Uncle N during his break while he was studing for some big test coming up. And during our break we walked around and visited other vendors and saw the alpacha's and the ladies spinning. Mom Mom and Lil Orchid went to the childrens area and drew on plastic which was recycled into shrinky dinks for the kids. And when Uncle N and Lil Orchid walked around a very nice vendor gave her the little polymer clay bird she was holding. And yes she was dressed in a Upcycled shortall that I designed and made her, I also made the matching leg warmers and arm warmers which I will begin selling. She was my little walking advertisment....It is a bonus that she is just so dang adorable! :) It just works when people can see how much cuter they are on, than hanging on a hanger or laying flat in a photograph. At the end of the day everything was packed back in the van and then it was time to pack Uncle N back up again for his drive back to school. It was not pretty another tearful goodbye for Lil Orchid and Uncle N. who says she gives the best hugs ever!

First Day of Strange Folk Festival

I would like to thank everyone for their patience and hopefully returning to our ETSY store now that we are back home and will be adding new items for the upcoming Holiday season....time to buy gifts, gifts, and don't forget yourself. We will be adding items to both my daughter's and mom's Etsy Stores too! HOW EXCITING!!
Okay Everyone knows how crazy things were getting, and how crazy I was feeling. But all went well, we set up in time that morning even with the blisters I had on my hands from the scissors (never done that before) and in the last three days I only had nine hours of sleep.(never do that again) It wasn't planned I just kept sewing & cutting and I don't have a clock in the sewing room. I was like the little train that could, I kept saying I think I can, I think I can...finish one more thing. Everything went great, this was a GREEN fair, and I fit in fine because of our ability to recycle and reuse. Although I was nervous about the Jury process (you submit photos and you are judged if you are good enough) (amazingly enough you have to pay for this torture) But happily I was accepted in less than 24 hours. (good for our ego) My daughter would like to continue, I'm not sure..although hearing the customers in person praise your hard work as they flip through things and buy them instantly DID FEEL GOOD! So to those online customers that do respond and leave Feedback , I want you to know that I TRUELY APPRECIATE YOU, TOO.

Sneak Peak

Thought I'd take a few pictures of the newest upcycled denim items I have been working on. The appliqued wreath and teddy bear are Vintage fabric. Aren't they CUTE? Although I 'm partial to the Pumpkins, Country Store, Retro Funky and the Asian Toile. Heck I like them all that's why I made them. ;)

A Nice Day

Did a little running today, running out of some thread and glue for the bows...so yes, we are still working like crazy. Lil Orchid is so funny, always wanting to help. She wants so much to help pin things in place, help rethread the bobbins, pick out buttons, rearrange the sewing room, etc....so we sit her down with a string and let her thread cheerios, this way she has a snack for when we go running in the car. Remember those old hard candy necklaces, anyway she is really getting fast, now if she could only tie a knot. I had to show her outfit today since you all know how she loves her gray kitty, Lil Orchids Mom Mom bought this and packed it away before she was even born..don't cha love the gray kitty kats. Here are photos of some new headbands (fascinators: an old word, for new fashion) and other items, woodburned ornaments, gift tags & stick puppets (woodburned on both sides) we've been working on. COMMENTS PLEASE!

Frustration

I need COMMENTS, Please, who ever you are reading this blog. Do you like the shop? Do you like the Blog? Am I boring? Anything.

Sorry just getting crazy, had my doctors appt this morning and again they will request a surgery date. Are you thinking what I'm thinking, will it be the weekend..week of...the festival. UGHHHHH! Sorry my emotions are getting the best of me. So I'll tell you that Lil Orchid is still creatively playing with her socks and now since she has taken off the shoes, socks and her brace, she is practicing unlacing and relacing her shoes. Not bad? And yes she is creating fashions for Kitty Kat with scraps of trim and lace from the sewing room. Look out runway models.

Patience and Prayers

Things are getting down to the wire on getting alot of items made for the Handmade festival. I appologize to those on ESTY that I have not listed anything lately, in fact none of our shops have updates, but if you think you see something in photos that we have made let us know and we'll work something out. We have been creating items for gifts, all the upcoming holidays and seasons and this is our last weekend to really accomplish alot. Good Luck to us! Lil Orchid is such an Angel, so patient although at times she does lay on the floor, a chair or the couch asking if we are done yet. Today, we drove nearly an hour one way to a visitation of a friends father who passed unexpectedly, Great Gram Jean & Ye Ye drove up too and brought Lil Orchid a soft gray kitty kat mask.

Thar she Blows!

Rain is not the only thing pouring....so is my creativity juices.
Incredible winds and flooding rains hit this morning from Hurricane Ike and his aftermath. Winds blew out an upstairs window, shattering the glass and soaking the inside. Rain flooded inside the garage...slosh, slosh. Lil orchid decided to follow me out to the garage while her Mom Mom was patching the window with tarps and next thing I new Lil Orchid lost her footing..SPLASH, right down on her caboose. Needless to say we are all drying out.
Check out the photos of the storm outside, while we stayed in sewing, cutting and creating. Lil Orchid decided to use her own socks as puppets to entertain herself, her creative juices were flowing too.
This was not the height of the storm, kinda in between, only a few shots cause I had to stand wrapped in a blanket because of the pelting rain. The view is of our backyard and the very small creek bed (usually only a trickle of water) and my little bridge I built to cross over it is almost getting washed away.

Saturday-Rain, Sale, Sewing

We started to get the rain from Hurricane Ike this morning, although tomorrow is suppose to be worse on the midwest. Walked the yard to get out of the house and think, made several stops to rest, took some pics on the way. Then we decided to check out a estate sale that advertised fabric. Whoa, she had tons of wedding, prom, pageant, velvets, taffetas, silks, lace, etc. Made my head spin....even Lil Orchid got in the spirit and started putting her choices into the bag or bags as it was. Then the elder lady begged us to let her give Lil Orchid a doll she had made, because "she was just too cute!" We finally gave in and she held up several dark haired dolls in white, pink & red, then asked Lil Orchid which one she liked, "Green". So she graciously picked up the one dressed in a blue green lace dress. We thanked her and then amongst the Ohhh's and Ahhhh's Lil Orchid hugging her new baby, blew them all kisses good bye.

Tinkerbell Tea Party

This morning we had a Tea Party with Lil Orchids new doll (yesterdays adventure also resulted in a shopping day with Great Grandma C). Lil Orchid loves to pretend and has a great imagination, so all dolled up in their princess tiara's and "Tinkiebell"(Lil Orchid's word) attire the party began...Lil Orchid served YeYe Cookies! For those that don't know, they are fig newtons that Great Grandpa (YeYe) always eats and brings her as a treat...Mmmmmm.
In the local newspaper it had an ad that said the nearby Dairy Haven was having customer appreciation days by having Free pony rides. With my love of horses we decided to drive over after Lil Orchids nap and see if she loved them as much as Mammaw. She giggled when she stroked their manes and then didn't want anything to do with them when I asked her if she wanted to ride. Mom Mom came to the rescue so we traded child for cameras and she rode for Mom Mom. The trainers were very gentle as were the pony's. One was named "Jewel" and believe it or not, the first one she rode was named "Miracle". Is that neat or what? Anyway we waited in line again and they let her ride the second time for quite a while. What was neat we had just discussed Therapeutic Horsemanship with her physical therapist this week regarding her hip and leg muscles.

She Loved it and has continued to talk it about all evening. We even had to call Great Gram and YeYe to tell them all about her riding the horsey.
