Lazy Saturday...what's that?

Didn't get to sleep in today, someone decided to wake Mee-maw first, so both of us decided to wake Mom-mom and start our day together. We're back to chilly weather due to a crazy thunder-hail storm last night. "Rain, Rain go away" is what my little orchid and I sang several times to drown out the thunder before finally falling asleep. Decided to do a little shopping at some yard sales..found some good buys, although my daughter was the winner on the best deal this time. Then cooked up lunch and sat together outside watching my granddaughter run to the far ends of the yard calling out "Blow, Mom" . Yes, she is now obsessed with dandylions and blowing them while the seedlings dance across the winds. It was really a special moment getting to share all of this with my daughter who has been working hard on the evening shift. It was great to hear her laugh and chuckle at how silly her little one can be these days.

Today, the weather was wonderful, I missed most of it by being indoors at work but made the most of it later. Soft breeze (not the blow me man down hurricane like usual) Sunshine so warm it heated the clothes you were wearing and a Sunset that looked like it was painted on a canvas. Loved It!! And enjoying it to, was my angel, sitting beside me, relaxing and watching, just like she was taking it all in like me. I think the sun's warmth was putting her to sleep. Her head was laying across my stomach and small wisps of her dark hair tickled her pink cheeks as she sang softly something regarding "Mom-Mom" and "E I E I-O", I think I also heard "like a diamond in the sky".

Happy Earth Day !

What a almost beautiful Day, Actually it rained after I went to work and was done by the time I left. It was gorgeous this afternoon and evening, and in celebration of Earth Day my little orchid and I worked in the garden in the area I call Fern Gully....does anyone remember that sweet animated movie? Well, mine is in a shady spot where ferns and hostas were planted and the area is decorated with some unusual statues of sweet fairies given to me mainly by my children. A long, long time ago I celebrate with them and others by chosing a country road and picking up all the winter litter. Then we progressed into planting something to honor the day and our love of nature. After slowing down today, I watched my granddaughter blow the aged dandilions so the seedlings would float across the field. Then we checked with the newly bloomed dandilions to see if she loved butter (you remember, by putting the flower under your chin to see the yellow reflection). What a beautiful day of sweet memories from the past and for my future.

Princess In Training

What little girl (and possibly their mom or grandma) doesn't dream of being a Princess! So with this inspiration and my little Orchids love of Bubbles. I designed some soft crowns with jewels (that can be decorated with their name) and a little wristlet made of colored ribbons and a small container of Bubbles for that magical afternoon of play!
I have the white crown set (red jewels and red, pink & white ribbons) and the purple crown set (pink, white & turquoise jewels with purple, orchid & white ribbons)

Zoo Kind of Weather

Thank goddness...no rain, warm weather! Actually mowed today, first time this year, not that it didn't need it just that there has been so much rain it was never dry enough. It took two days, after work but I got it done...all three acres. Yeah for Me and my allergy medicine. So as I bounced across the lawn, mowing..mowing..mowing it came to me the "Zoo" perfect weather for the Zoo. There is an incredible one in St. Louis, MO- open views to the animals, watching the hippos through a glass wall seeing them under water.. Great! And the new penquin exhibit so close they can splash you. Can't wait to make the drive. Flashback to the beautiful, but sad zoo in Ho Chi Minh City, not many animals and the elephants are in chains. I know this is probable the safe way in their culture and the people flock there to see and feed them, Happily. But I have been spoiled by the freedom and beauty of most American Zoos.

In tribute...these Baby B'Gosh "Do Not Feed" Zoo Overalls. With Animal appliques, multi-colored star ribbons and embroidered sayings like "I'm a lil Monkey" on the rear.
Bows can be removed for the boys to wear.

Asian influence

Worked a short day, so came home to get a little more sewing done. Got distracted, playing with my little orchid. It's beautiful today. No Rain! So we are going to blow bubbles outside first ..... then fix lunch, something light, maybe a bowl of Pho. I learned to enjoy it in Ho Chi Minh City, but not real big on other traditional dishes there. If it was seafood, it always starred back or tried to crawl off my plate. Although the cucumbers were the best I've ever tasted..never bitter. Had a lot of fun with this material. Loved the children dancing with the lanterns in purple. Old Navy size 3T And I thought the green tassles set off the applique shaped lantern. The soft green print ruffle on the legs gives it the little girl feel, trimmed in a shiny purple ric rac.
The yellow background really sets off this Arizona size 5 Jumper. The children are celebrating with a dragon dance and musical instuments all around the tail of the jumper. The embroidered fan gives it the true asian influence with the golden tassle dangling as she moves. The frayed cut out blue lantern heart placed on the bodice is that loving touch.

Hearts and Kisses

Flashback, yes I'm allowed, I'm old enough. Valentines day this year was really fun. No no date, no dinner out with dancing, just feeling good fun. Not a holiday for a single women. But I got into it this year, thinking back on the valentine exchanges in elementry school, making your special box with the pictures cut out from magazines and paper doilies. I even pushed the buttons and played those singing stuffed animals in the store aisles (normally very annoying). So in the spirit of things I dug out every heart print material and ribbon I could find. And what little spare time I had here is what I came up with. Luckily, Love is in season all year round not just on Valentines Day. Kisses
Infant (0-6 mos.)
Light weight jacket, embellished with appliqued vintage clowns in heart print for that sweet baby.

*Baby Gap overalls sz M 6-12 mos.

embroidered pink hearts and a cut out backed with country heart print material. So precious & soft with the heart print ribbon & bows.

* Kissy monster print material with the cutest red & white heart print ruffled at the waist and used as a knee patch.

Past Creations...

This is something new for me, I usually read the blogs not write one. And I would have to say it is my daughter that has the creative touch to conveying her words to paper. But I decided to try, and hopefully this will keep you reading on. My passion...that's easy...my family, photography, sewing, all aspects of creating - while trying to stay positive through the daily kicks in my life.
To begin with, I found I liked recycling gently used denim overalls, dresses, and shortalls..that is to say giving them a new life, a new look and a whole lot of fun.
I use techniques such as applique, embroidery and patchwork, to name a few.
So, I would like to share some of my previous creations......

they are now being worn by some of the cutest and well dressed children across the Nation.

Remember -
I only make One of a Kind items, however I will duplicate the theme (zoo, party, picnics, etc.)
