Sad Snowy Sunday...Yuck!

2nd Day of the Craft Fair.....we, meaning a few of us outside vendors survived the Horrific Thundershowers and Winds yesterday. Others lost their tents, it was sad that the Organization did not have any concerns for the paid participants outside. You see, we didn't pay the high cost of being inside, as they put it we took our own chances.
So today the temperatures dropped into the 30's and we woke up to overnight SNOW. After shoveling out our tent and the area around us, we did manage to sell a few things.

Rainy Saturday

1st Day of the Craft Fair....the over night storms left our tent standing, surprize surprize! Since we new the weather was coming we decided not to leave our crafts overnight, especially since we were not given any type of security. We unloaded in the early morning rain and wind. Then endured the Thunderstorms and Terrible Winds throughout the Day. Everyone ran past the tents and headed straight for the indoor vendors.
Thank You to those customers that came in to buy and browse.....even if we had to beg you to do it.
Thank you to my family that helped during this show.

Green with Indie ReStyle Fashion Show

The day started out early driving to STL, MO to prepare for the Fashion Show. I am so PLEASED with the out come with the "Little Treasure" Pirate themed outfit. Making it entirely recycled/green was not such a challenge as I thought. Most of the items were on hand, such as the faux leather mini skirt used for the vest and boots. I'm proud of my teammate, my daughter, that made the Hair Bows from plastic store bags and the purse from an empty tissue box. But my model, my granddaughter was Incredible, she walked the Catwalk all by herself !!
Oliver Studios volunteered and fixed hair and make up for the models. Lil' Orchid (as she puts it) "Got her face painted" (little eye shadow, little blush and little lipstick -like GreatGreat).

We won one of the four categories in "Everyday is ECOfabulous" that we were eligible for.
1. WE WON ! "Best Accessories Overall"
2. won by the girl wearing the bean dress - Best Use of Biodegradable material Overall
3. won by the girl wearing the brown plaid dress - Best Repurposing Overall
4. won by the mother/daughter team wearing the Army Jackets - Best Team (original)
there were others in the individual categories and the "ARTastic" division.
All the entries were to be Donated to raise funds by Silent Auction for Earth Dance Farms. It is unfortunate that some people pulled out of the competition and others did not donate their designs for such a worthy cause. But what a great day of Fun & Competition!
I'm sure I don't have to remind anyone to "RECYCLE"

READ BELOW: my description I had to write for the Emcee's.....
Well, Blow Me Down, this little Buccaneer wants to show everyone that not just the Big Girls want to be Styling. Keira is modeling this dangerously nautical pair of gently worn Upcycled Overalls designed by Orchids and Ladybugs Boutique. All their creations are made for children with Fun and Fashion in mind. You can purchase their other Unique Upcycled Children's Wear on-line at their ETSY Shoppe. (or next week end at Lindbergh High School for the Crest wood-Sunset Hills Rotary Club Craft Sale)*To make dressing easier, and comfort a plus, everything is attached to the Overalls, such as the redesigned faux leather biker skirt which was given new life as the Vest and the classic knee high, fold over, red ribbon trimmed, Swash Buckling Boots. All the unconventional prints of red, white and black cotton fabric adopted for the bodice , detachable sleeves and full skirt came from discarded shirts and dresses. The red ruffle trim was reborn from a “Linus Loved” baby quilt, while the ribbon, braids, and trims were found abandoned in the bottom of a “Free” yard sale box. Some “Scurry Dog” said the red and black tulle was reconstructed from a “I can't believe I wore that prom dress”, and the buttons used to harken the extra embellishment touch, were nipped from moth eaten rescued coats and shirts. This little Jolly Roger's floral accents were salvaged during seasonal clearing from Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. The poinsettias, mum and geraniums bestowed with love, definitely adds a Loving Touch to this Pirate Themed Outfit. Made famous by the Pirates of the Carribean is an appliquéd map on the back with it's ever so popular “X” and the embroidered words “Look No Further – I'm the Treasure”. So appropriate for all the children in our lives.*A once comforting, now empty, tissue box is the base for her matching fabric Satchel, ready to be filled with doubloons and pieces of eight and maybe a little chap stick.*While a well-worn, red and white pair of anklets were restyled into an adorable pair of Arm Warmers. Weather worthy at any Port of Call.*And to top off the outfit is the ever-so-clever recycled Target store plastic bag, fashioned into Hair Bow Flowers of red and white. Mounted onto a snap clip and centered with a rescued antique looking skull and cross bones button. So climb aboard for adventure and place your bids so your own little Privateer can Steal some Hearts while raising money for a worthy cause. And remember when you weigh the anchor and hoist the main sail “Always Recycle” it's everyones planet but it's their Future!

And let's Not forget "Happy 34th Anniversary" Mom & Mel (Great Great & YeYe)

Growing Up...

My Lil' Orchid went to her first day of Preschool today. She was all smiles and once she saw the Paint eisle, computer and other kids it was see ya later. She is only there for 2 and 1/2 hours but I MISS HER!!

Speaking of growing up, we took a road trip and visited an Aunt and was given some vintage fabric and patterns. YEAH! But we also made a stop by an unusual Statue in Alton, IL. He was born and died there at the young age of 22. But made a big impact for the area. He is called the "Gentle Giant" Robert P Wadlow (famous for being the tallest man 8 ft 11.1 in). My aunt played with him as a young girl. Anyway it is amazing to stop and stand by his life size statue. Lil Orchid was a little scared of it. At age 10 yrs he was 6 ft 6 in.
(my daughter is 5'8, sorry the pics aren't that great it was frigid outside)
Look it up his story is amazing.
